Rafael Rotter-Rogers Performer of the Month and nominee for OHL Performer of the Month
The Storm captain was named the Rogers Performer of the Month for the third consecutive month after leading all Storm forwards in scoring with 15 points during the month of March. The 20 year old recorded 15 points, three goals and 12 assists in 12 games during the month of March. Rotter recorded at least one point in all but two games during the month, had four multiple point games and was awarded with one second star honour for his play.
The Storm captain’s play in the latter half of the month was instrumental in helping his club finish fifth overall in the Western Conference and upset the fourth seeded London Knights in the first round of the OHL playoffs. In the opening round of the 2008 playoffs, Rotter had eight points in the five game series, leading all Storm players. The Austria native helped put his team up three games to none scoring the game winning goal, and setting up an insurance marker in the third game of the series.
This season Rotter finished second on the Storm in scoring with 59 points in 68 games.
Thomas McCollum –Rogers Goaltender of the Month and nominee for OHL Goaltender of the Month
McCollum was named the Rogers Goaltender of the Month after posting a 7-3 record, along with a 2.15 goals against average and 0.933 save percentage in 11 games played during the month of March. The Sanborn New York native was helped his team defeat the London Knights in the first round, recording his fifth shutout of the season during the pivotal Game 5 of the Western Conference Quarter-final Series. The 18 year old was a solid presence in net for the Storm throughout the series making a number of key, game saving stops.
The second-year netminder was awarded with two first star, one second star and one third star honour during the month of March.
McCollum finished the regular season with a 25-17-3-3 record with four shutouts, a goals against average of 2.50 and a save percentage of 0.914. He currently sits fourth in the league for goals against average as well as shutouts (4), 6th for save percentage and 9th in wins (25).
Drew Doughty- Rogers Defenceman of the Month and nominee for OHL Defenceman of the Month
Storm assistant captain Drew Doughty was named the Rogers Defenceman of the Month for March. The London native finished the regular season with four points and played a key role in the Storm’s first round upset of the London Knights.
In the post-season, Doughty had two multiple point games and was named the first star for his stunning individual effort against the London Knights- scoring the winning goal with less than 15 seconds left in regulation. In five playoff games, Doughty had five points including scoring the winner in game one, the ever important first goal in the second game and setting up key goals in the third and fourth match-ups. Doughty was named a star of the game in three of the five games against the Knights. The 18 year old was awarded with one first star and two third star honours.
Doughty is currently second on the Storm in overall playoff scoring and first among defencemen with five points (two goals and three assists).
