The Guelph Storm announced today that forward Michael Latta is the AMJ Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, February 13th.
Latta picked up six points in four games this weekend including four goals and two assists. Tuesday night in Kitchener the St. Clements native had two assists setting up Kosmachuk for the first of the night and then Holland for the Storm’s third and final goal in the 5-3 loss. Thursday night in Peterborough, Latta scored two of the three Storm goals in the 5-3 loss to the Petes. Named second star of the game, the Predators third round pick scored his 27th and 28th of the season. On Friday night at home, Latta scored once and was named first star in the Storm’s 4-2 victory over the Battalion. Finally, on Sunday in London Latta set up Erlich for the first of three unanswered Storm goals, jump starting the comeback in the 3-2 Storm win.
With six points this weekend, Latta sits one point off the Storm scoring lead behind Taylor Beck with 70 points. He leads the team in assists with 41 and is third in goals scored with 29. Producing at well over a point per game pace, Latta is third on the team in power play goals with 10 and leads all Storm players in penalty minutes with 128. His four goals this weekend bring him that much closer to scoring 100 career tallies in the OHL. With 98 goals, Latta is two away from being the second Storm player this season to record 100 career OHL goals. Taylor Beck did it back on January 29th against the Sudbury Wolves.
Next up, the Storm hosts the Peterborough Petes on Friday night before heading to Erie for a divisional match up on Saturday. Returning home on Monday, the Storm hosts the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds for a special Family Day affair at 2:00pm.
