A lot of successful hockey coaches have roamed the illustrious halls of McGill University in Montreal. The Toronto Maple Leafs’ Mike Babcock and Ottawa Senators’ bench boss Guy Boucher are the most celebrated these days, but Guelph Storm coach and general manager George Burnett also played hockey while attending McGill and has gone on to carve out a very distinguished coaching resume.
Burnett was coming off a successful junior career with the London Knights where he played three seasons ringing up 21 points in his rookie year, then years of 76 and 92 points. Those are good numbers by any standard but when appetizing professional offers didn’t materialize he decided to follow his other passion — teaching.
