As the Guelph Storm continues to drift further and further from a playoff spot, they continue to get younger. Last week they signed 17-year-old defenceman Nolan Makkonen, a native of Sault Ste. Marie. The Storm was down to five defencemen after trading Noah Carroll and because of injuries to Austin Hall and Levi Tetrault, so they needed bodies on the back end.
Makkonen, the Storm’s ninth round pick in 2015, isn’t the answer to their latest stretch of uninspired play but he will now get a chance to show his value at the Ontario Hockey League level.
