Samorukov Named Player of the Week

The Guelph Storm announced today that defenceman Dmitri Samorukov is the Player of the week ending January 8, 2017, marking the second time the Moscow native has earned the honour.

Samorukov has come into his own as of late, playing lots of heavy minutes, earning an important role on the team’s special teams units. The rookie defenceman scored his third goal of the season on a blast from the point in Sunday’s 4-1 loss to the Sudbury Wolves. Growing his offensive game, Samorukov averaged two shots per game during last week’s four contests.

In total, the six-foot-two, 180-pound defender has three goals and nine assists for 12 points in 39 games.

Following a busy week, the Storm play just twice this week in a home-and-home series with Highway Six rivals, the Owen Sound Attack. Game one takes place Wednesday night as the Storm visit Owen Sound, before returning home Friday night for a 7:30 pm puck drop against the Attack.
