Smith Named Player of the Week

The Guelph Storm announced today that forward Givani Smith is the Player of the Week for the week ending December 18, 2016, earning the honours for his team-leading fourth time this season.

The Detroit Red Wings Prospects had a three-point week to cap the first half of the season, starting with scoring the lone Storm goal in a 4-1 loss to the London Knights on Friday, December 15. The Toronto native then recorded the primary assist on Saturday’s game-winning goal and added an empty net marker to secure the 5-2 victory over the Highway Seven rivals, the Kitchener Rangers.

Smith’s three-point weekend caps a strong first half of the season for the third-year forward. Smith heads into the Christmas break with 17 goals and 11 assists for 28 points in 30 games played, a pace that will see him surpass his totals set during his sophomore season.

The Storm are now on their Christmas break and return to action on Wednesday, December 28 for their final home game of 2016 when they host the Sarnia Sting for a Western Conference showdown.
