Smith named Player of the Week

The Guelph Storm announced today that forward Givani Smith is the Player of the Week for the week ending March 5, 2017, earning the honours for his team-leading sixth time this season.

The Detroit Red Wings prospect recorded his second hat-trick of the year on Saturday night, leading the Storm’s comeback scoring with just three seconds left to force the game into overtime. Guelph storybook comeback would eventually fall short falling 6-5 in the overtime thriller to Highway Six rivals, the Owen Sound Attack. Smith’s three-goal night saw him set a career high for goals, the Storm veteran also recorded his 100th career OHL point.

On pace to set a career-high in points, the Toronto, Ontario native leads the team in goals and is third in points with 25 goals and 15 assists for 40 points in 58 games played

Next, the Storm have a busy weekend with three games in four days, starting with a visit to London on Thursday night when the Storm face the Knights for a 7:00 pm puck drop. The Storm then return home Friday night, playing host to the Saginaw Spirit for the final time this season, the puck drop is slated for 7:30 pm. Guelph then closes the weekend with their final contest against the Knights for a Sunday matinee, scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm.
