Friday night on Sportsnet, the Storm overcame a slow start to claw their way back from a 1-0 third period deficit with four straight goals to grab a 4-1 win.
Garret Sparks enjoyed one of his best starts of the season keeping Guelph in the game in the first period despite being outshot 16-6. Over the final two frames, the Storm netminder made several huge saves before the offence finally came to life in the third.
Jason Dickinson on the powerplay pulled the home side even at the 3:17 mark of the third. Moments later off an offensive zone draw, Matt Finn took a point shot that missed wide by three feet only to rebound off the end wall, over the back net mesh and bounced off the back of Daniel Althshuller’s head and into the net. The bizarre goal proved to be the game winner as Scott Kosmachuk finished off a nifty give and go with Tanner Richard before Ryan Horvat scored into the empty net.
Playing their third three-in-three in three straight weekends, the Storm will travel to St. Catharine’s tomorrow night to face the Niagara IceDogs before returning to host the London Knights at the Sleeman Centre on Sunday afternoon at 2 pm.
