Storm Announce New Head Coach and General Manager

The Guelph Storm Hockey Club announced today that George Burnett has been named Head Coach and General Manager.  A two-time OHL Coach of the Year, Burnett joins the Storm as the sixth-winningest head coach in league history including a previous one-year stint in Guelph where he earned an OHL Championship.

George has an extensive record of very successful leadership in the OHL as a Head Coach and General Manager.  During his 20-year junior career behind the bench, he has amassed 636 regular season wins and earned five division championships.  Throughout this tenure, Burnett has guided his teams to 16 playoff appearances with a remarkable record of advancing to the Conference Championship series or beyond on eight of those 16 occasions.  In addition to two Memorial Cup appearances and an Ontario Hockey League championship in 1997-98, Burnett has also earned head coaching titles in the American Hockey League (1993 Calder Cup), and twice internationally with Team Canada (2010 IIHF Ivan Hlinka U18 Gold and 2001 IIHF U18 World Cup Gold).

A former NHL Head Coach with the Edmonton Oilers and Assistant Coach with the Anaheim Ducks, George was most recently the General Manager of the Flint Firebirds for the 2016/17 season.

George will assume the two roles with the Guelph Storm effective immediately with the hockey club’s prospect fitness and orientation day taking place on Saturday, April 22.

The Guelph Storm will host a Media Conference on Tuesday, April 18 at 4:30 pm at the Sleeman Centre for further information.
