It was a hard fought game at the Sleeman Centre on Friday night.

With the Ottawa 67’s in town for their only visit of the season, the Guelph Storm tied the game at one-all late in the game, but the Eastern Conference’s 67’s came out on top in a shootout for a final score of 2-1.

Two big parts of the game stood between the pipes at either end, starting¬†with the 67’s Olivier Tremblay turning aside 27 shots and three shootout attempts as the game’s first star, followed by the Storm’s Anthony Popovich, who made 37 saves in the loss.

For the first two periods, both goaltenders came up with outstanding displays in the paint with chances coming in either end, keeping the score locked at zeroes heading into the third.

Getting things going on the board was Jacob Cascagnette, jumping on a rebound off a pass from Tye Felhaber in the corner down low to make it a 1-0 game 2:56 into the frame.

Later in the period, with just two minutes left on the clock, the Storm struck back as Cam Hillis put the puck towards the net only to have Alexey Toropchenko make no mistake in front for his 12th of the season.

In need of extra time, the fourth period featuring sudden death three-on-three play saw no resolution, even with the exchange of breakaways at both ends — first with Ryan Merkley stopped by Tremblay, quickly followed by a Popovich save the other way.

Moving into the shootout, Sasha Chmelevski — the game’s third star — was the only goal scorer, giving the 67’s the 2-1 win on the night. For the Storm, Dmitri Samorukov, Isaac Ratcliffe, and Merkley were all stopped by Tremblay.

Next up, the Storm look ahead to a home-and-home series with the Erie Otters, starting in Erie on Sunday, and then right back to Guelph for a 2:00pm puck drop on Monday afternoon at the Sleeman Centre.
