Veterans Storm NHL Prospect Camps
Several Storm players are showcasing their talent at NHL prospect camps this month. This list includes eight players, the most since the 2013-14 OHL Championship team when 12 players attended, that are eligible to return to the Storm for the 2017-18 season.
Givani Smith (DET (2016) RD: 2 (#46)) is headed to one of the biggest NHL Prospects tournaments, the Traverse City Tournament in Traverse City Michigan. This year Smith will play against fellow Storm teammate Alexey Toropchenko (STL (2017) RD:4 (#113)) and *Liam Hawel’s (DAL (2017) RD: 4 (#101)) Dallas Stars as the tournament involves eight NHL teams, including the Stars, Detroit Red Wings, Carolina Hurricanes, Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers and St. Louis Blues. Defenceman Mark Shoemaker (SJ (2016) RD:6 (#180)) will face off against *Nate Schnarr’s (ARI (2017) RD: 3 (#75)) Arizona Coyotes at the Prospect Showcase from Sept. 9th -12th in San Jose, CA. Prospects from the Anaheim Ducks, Colorado Avalanche and Coyotes will be on hand to play a round robin style tournament where each team plays three games. Find the full schedule here.
James McEwan, a free agent invite who also attended development camp in July, will suit up for the Montreal Canadiens prospects in the three team tournament that features the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators prospects. The tournament will be held in downtown Toronto at the Ricoh Centre. Find the full schedule here.
Dmitri Samorukov (EDM (2017) RD: 3 (#84)) is headed to the Young Stars Tournament in Penticton, BC where he will play against prospects from the Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jets. The tournament runs from September 8th-11th at the South Okanagan Events Centre. Find the full schedule here.
Last, but not least Isaac Ratcliffe (PHI (2017) RD: 2 (#35)) and the rest of the Philadelphia Flyers prospects will play one game against the New York Islanders prospects on September 13th.
The Storm continue exhibition season next Thursday night as they host the Hamilton Bulldogs for a 7pm start. The Peterborough Petes close off the Storm’s pre-season with a visit to the Sleeman Centre on Saturday, September 16th at 7pm.
