Former Coach and GM Dave Barr named Assistant Coach of NHL’s Sabres

Former Storm bench boss and General Manager Dave Barr has been hired as an Assistant Coach by the Buffalo Sabres.

Former NHLers Terry Murray and Dave Barr will be joining the Buffalo Sabres coaching staff, Head Coach Dan Bylsma announced Thursday morning.

Barr joined the Storm in 2003-04 winning an OHL Championship as General Manager of the club. In 2004-05, he took over the head coaching position, managing both roles until he left to fill an assistant coaching position with the Colorado Avalanche following the 2007-08 season. With 272 games coached, he had a record of 130 wins, 106 losses, 10 ties and 34 overtime losses.

Geoff Ward, who coached the Storm to the Midwest Division title in 1998-99, was hired yesterday as an Assistant Coach with the New Jersey Devils.  Last season, Barr was part of Peter DeBoer’s coaching staff in New Jersey before DeBoer was let go by the club.
