Guelph Storm Success

GUELPH STORM TRADITION¦ Originally the storied Toronto Marlboros franchise, the Guelph Storm have attempted to live up to this rich history.  With a CHL best seven Memorial Cups won by the Marlboros, carrying this remarkable legacy forward continues to  be the principal goal of the Guelph Storm.  The proud tradition developed by the Marlboros since their inception in 1903 is carried forward by the Guelph Storm a century later.

GUELPH STORM ACHIEVEMENTS¦ Few CHL teams can boast the Storm’s record of success during the past 17 seasons.   Boasting four Division Titles, two Conference Titles, two OHL Championships and four Memorial Cup appearances, the club’s success has been remarkable. Also notable, the Storm’s current streak of 19 consecutive post-season appearances is a measure of consistency and the 2nd longest active streak in the OHL.

GUELPH STORM GRADUATES IN THE PROFESSIONAL RANKS¦ Drafted 2nd overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, former Storm defenceman Drew Doughty is one several Guelph Storm Alumnus to play in the NHL last season.  A total of 41 former Storm players have played in the NHL to date.  In total 54 current and former Storm players have been drafted in the NHL Entry Draft since 1992.

GUELPH STORM GRADUATES IN THE CIS¦ Over 100 former Guelph Storm players have played University, or College hockey throughout Canada  while receiving education packages provided by the Storm, or other OHL teams.  During the 2008-09 season alone, a total of 16 former Guelph Storm players were on CIS rosters competing across the country.

GUELPH STORM PLAYERS ON THE INTERNATIONAL STAGE¦ This season, another Storm player competed in the World Jr. Championship, raising the number of appearances by Storm players at the prestigious event to 27.  Forward Richard Panik starred for Slovakia in Buffalo leading his club in points. The Guelph Storm has honoured national team members on banners hanging proudly inside the Sleeman Centre.

STAYING IN TOUCH WITH ALUMNI¦ After graduating from the OHL, several Storm alumni have chosen to return to Guelph to make the city their home.  After celebrating our 20th anniversary season last summer with an Alumni Game and weekend, our connection to Storm alumni has never been stronger.  The Storm stays in contact with a high percentage of Alumni and provides updates regarding ˜life after the Storm’ for inquisitive fans through the team website and various publications.
