Knights creep past Storm

By Tony Saxon, Guelph Mercury – The Guelph Storm might not have felt like it Friday night, but they owe London Knights goaltender Michael Houser a thank you.

The outstanding puck stopper made 41 saves in a 3-1 win over the Storm Friday, but he’s also one of the main reasons Garret Sparks was around to make 35 saves and keep the Storm in it.

“We’re both American goalies and when I was deciding whether to come play in the OHL I watched Houser during his first year in the league and his success was one of the reasons I decided to come play here,” Sparks said after the tough loss at the John Labatt Centre.

Houser is a 19-year-old Pennsylvania native. Sparks is an 18-year-old Illinois native. They don’t know each other, but are both similar physically and play similar styles.

“He’s one of the best in the league and quite honestly it’s a shock he’s not been drafted yet,” Sparks said.

Houser was the main reason the Storm couldn’t at least come away with a point on Teddy Bear Night at the John Labatt Centre.
