On Sunday June 30th at the Prudential Centre in Newark, New Jersey Jason Dickinson, Hunter Garlent, Tyler Bertuzzi, Ben Harpur, Justin Auger, and Zac Leslie will hope to fulfill a lifelong dream of being drafted to the NHL.
Leading up to the draft, GuelphStorm.com will revisit the past 16 NHL Entry Drafts beginning with the 1993 draft reviewing the many Storm players that have been grabbed by NHL clubs and where their professional careers would take them.
In St. Paul Minnesota at the Xcel Energy Centre, Storm players Andrey Pedan and Garret Sparks were drafted to the NHL in the 3rd and 7th rounds respectively. With the second pick of the third round, Pedan was selected by the New York Islanders, 63rd overall. In April, Pedan signed a three year entry level contract with the Islanders so once the Storm were ousted from the 2012-13 playoffs, the Russian native joined their AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers for 8 games and recorded 2 assists.
With the Toronto Maple Leafs’ last pick of the 2010 draft, they selected Storm goaltender Garret Sparks. On March 19th, the Elmhurst Illinois native signed a three year entry level contract with the Leafs and after the Storm season ended, Sparks joined the AHL Marlies for the playoffs. He played mostly back up, but started in three games winning two and tieing the other.
