Four straight goals sink Storm

Friday night in Saginaw, the Storm faced the 7th place Spirit looking to make up ground in their pursuit of a playoff spot.  After building three goal leads on two occasions, Guelph gave up the last four goals of the contest and dropped a disappointing 5-4 loss to Saginaw.

Michael Latta (pictured) scored twice for the visitors.  Latta opened the scoring only 44 seconds in with his 11th of the season from Francis Menard and Ben Chiarot.  Then late in the second, the St. Clements’ native added his second of the game to give Guelph a 4-1 lead with the man advantage with 5:44 remaining in the second when he one-timed a Taylor Beck feed to make the score 4-1.

The Storm would lead the game 1-0 after one on Latta’s first marker.  Only 3:57 into the second, the visitors had jumped out to a 3-0 lead on Tyler Carroll’s powerplay tally from Peter Holland and Corey Syvret and Cody McNaughton’s 9th of the year from Zack Mitchell and Ryan Gottschalk.  The Spirit would finally solve Brandon Foote in the Guelph goal at 10:14 with a powerplay goal of their own to cut the lead to two.  Just four minutes later, Guelph’s Latta would restore the Storm’s three goal bulge before Saginaw would add two before the end of forty minutes.

Up a goal after two, the Storm would see their slight lead slip away with a pair of goals by the hosts only 23 seconds apart.  Anthony Camera scored the equalizer at 1:57 with a high shot over Foote, before Tyler Murovice capped off a 1st star performance with a backhander past Foote to give Saginaw their first lead of the night.
