Storm bring down Spits

By Tony Saxon, Guelph Mercury

It was a first for the Guelph Storm’s Hunter Garlent and almost a first for his teammate Garret Sparks.

Garlent scored his first OHL goal and Sparks was 55 seconds away from his first OHL shutout Friday as the Storm beat the Windsor Spitfires 4-1 at the Sleeman Centre.

The win snapped a mini two-game losing streak.

Garlent, the team’s first round pick last May, took advantage of some hard work by teammates Patrick Watling and Ryan Horvat to fire one past Windsor goaltender John Cullen from the slot late in the third period to ice the victory.

Sparks was beaten by the Spits’ Anthony Cortellessa on a sloppy scramble in the slot to steal his goose egg.

“Yeah, that felt good,” said a beaming Garlent after some good-natured post-game razzing from his teammates in the Storm dressing room.
