Storm falters late in 3-1 loss at Belleville

One night after upsetting the East Division leading Ottawa 67’s, the Storm dropped a 3-1 decision in Belleville versus the Bulls.

Jason Dickinson’s four-on-four tally in the second period was the lone marker for the visitors.  The rookie winger notched his sixth of the season unassisted to open the scoring 99 seconds into the middle twenty.  With Andrey Pedan and Garrett Hooey in the box for roughing, Dickinson carried the puck into the offensive zone then pulled the puck towards the slot and quickly fired it past Malcolm Subban.  In spite of a combined 47 shots in the first two periods, Dickinson’s goal held up until 6:44 of the third.

After getting hauled down as he slid between a pair of Storm blueliners, highly ranked draft prospect Brendan Gaunce regained his footing and snapped the equalizer past Garret Sparks.  The added a powerplay goal by Stephen Silas at 15:19 and after a late Stephen Gaskin minor dashed the Storm’s comeback hopes, the home side struck with the man advantage again to make it a 3-1 final.

The Storm will look to pick up four of six points on their annual Eastern Ontario road swing when they head to Kingston for a 2 pm start on Sunday afternoon.

Next Friday night, Nail Yakupov, the top rated prospect in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft and the Sarnia Sting visit the Sleeman Centre.  Three days later, it’s the annual Family Day holiday matinee in Guelph when the Kitchener Rangers visit for a 2 pm puck drop.
