Storm

The Guelph Storm’s in-season roster moves are paying off, helping the team to a 7-1 win over the Owen Sound Attack at the Sleeman Centre on Friday Oct. 4, 2013.
Defenceman Steven Trojanovich, acquired from the Peterborough Petes earlier in the day, had two blocked shots and an assist in his Storm debut.
“I am happy to be here, it is a really good team and I think it a good fit for me,” said Trojanovich, who arrived in Guelph just two hours before puck drop.
The addition of the overage right-handed defenceman gives Storm Coach Scott Walker eight regular defencemen. Walker elected to move Chadd Bauman to the wing, who rewarded him with a goal and an assist.
“[If] we have guys that aren’t going every single night, you can just move guys around the lineup,” said Walker. “[We can] try and get either of them going or put the guys together that are going.”
Bauman was one of seven Storm players to score in their route of the Attack.
Zac Leslie started the scoring with a snap shot past Attack goalie Jack Flinn during a delayed penalty. Tyler Bertuzzi drew the penalty as he stepped around Attack defenceman Kurtis MacDermid, who in turn tripped him. Before an Attack player could touch the puck to stop the play, Bertuzzi found Brock McGinn to set up Leslie.
McGinn then added a powerplay goal with a wrist shot over the glove of Flinn. McGinn continued his dominance over the Attack in the second period when he added his second assist of the game, giving him seven goals and 11 points in his last seven meetings with Owen Sound.
After Bauman made it 3-0, the Storm powerplay went back to work as Zack Mitchell wristed one through a screened Flinn from the high slot. Robby Fabbri extended the Storm lead on a rebound just seven seconds before the end of the second period.
Ryan Horvat and Scott Kosmachuk rounded out the Storm scoring in the third period before Gemel Smith scored his league leading tenth goal of the season to break Justin Nichols shutout bid.
Nichols continued his stellar play as he stopped 37 of 38 shots while playing his second straight game.
The Storm’s depth will be tested when they take their perfect record on the road for the rest of the weekend. Bertuzzi and captain Matt Finn will sit out tomorrow’s game in London and Sunday’s game in Oshawa because of an altercation in the final five minutes of the game.
“It’s extremely disappointing, that’s not what we’re about and that’s not the game that we want to play,” said Walker. “There was really no need for all that stuff.”
“We’re going to have to live with it and so will the two players, but those guys are both two important parts of our team and they should know that.”
The Storm hit the road for six games before returning to the Sleeman Centre on Friday, Oct 18 against the Niagara Ice Dogs.
